HOCl (Hypochlorous Acid)
Hypochlorous acid is one of the most efficient biocides known and can be up to 300 times more effective than bleach.
Part of the new recommended protocol when treating patients in surgery is now a pre treatment mouth rinse. This is to help kill the virus within the mouth, thus reducing the virus within the aerosol.
Important information - Worth a read: -
HOCl is part of a group of small molecules known as reactive oxygen species (ROS). Covid19 is sensitive to oxidation – HOCl is a highly effective oxidising agent so has the ability to neutralise this virus. Asking your patient to rinse with an effective biocidal mouthwash such as OraWize+, immediately prior to any treatment has been shown to reduce the number of microbes found in the aerosol created by dental procedures. Several studies have shown that a range of mouthwashes have a beneficial effect. The initial evidence from studies in Wuhan, China suggest that the common mouthwashes such as those containing Chlorhexidine are not effective against coronoviruses
